I, Doctor Emanuel DD, a Professor and Researcher in sustainability, engineering and health, am pleased to write a testimony of my experience during two survival skills training camps; I attended in 2010 and 2012. Each person of color should experience this in their life time and be a member of such a Network to prepare for the events that we might have to face in the near future. I appreciate the experience of learning how to survive, navigate and maneuver in the dark, in an unknown region of the planet. The following essential skills were taught to me: camping, compass orientation, map reading, camp fire setting, exercise, hiking, stalking people, learning which foods in the wild are eatable, water purification for drinking, self-defense classes and a lot more. These are the tools we need as a people for the upcoming events in our life time and/or our children’s life time. I enjoyed this Survival Camp so much; that I would invite anyone I think would be interested, this includes my friends, children and grandchildren. So far my children agree to come and one of my grandchildren at the age of 10 came with me in 2012.We both enjoyed our experience with the group and enjoyed our time re-connecting with Mother Nature.

I have attended these camps since finding out about it back in 2008, The Instruction is invaluable, The historical context and its relativeness to our time today was impressively molded into a three day consistent flow of Wilderness Survival information. Formerly an active duty member of the US Marine Corps I still learned information that I had not known previously relative to outdoor wilderness survival. I believe no matter what background you bring there is something new to learn…..

I enjoyed “roughing it” out in the woods. I Especially liked being in that environment with a group of like mined Brothers and Sisters. I learned some survival skills that has given me more confidence about what to do if I find myself in a crisis situation like Katrina. I look forward to getting back out there soon. Thank you FAS-N
